Horse Placement & Program Partnerships

Bring the Power of Retired Off-Track Thoroughbreds to Your Program

At Abijah’s, we believe in the transformative potential of off-track thoroughbreds—not just for our work, but for other individuals, programs and organizations committed to healing, growth, and experiential learning.

Our horses are retired professional athletes, experienced with discipline, resilience, and will bring a unique presence to your personal life and/or equine program.

Program Eligibility Requirements

Abijah’s is committed to ensuring that each retired off-track thoroughbred placed in a program thrives, and that participants gain the full benefit of working with these exceptional animals. Programs seeking placement of an off-track thoroughbred through Abijah’s must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a licensed business or organization with a minimum of five (5) years of operating experience. (Programs in the mental health field must be certified in ARCH and/or Eagala.)

Maintain a functioning website with current contact information.

  • Have appropriate facilities, including safe riding, handling, shelter, and turnout areas suitable for a thoroughbred.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to both human care and the horse’s ongoing wellbeing.

  • Be open to in-person site visits by Abijah’s to assess program and facility alignment.

  • Provide annual updates on the horse’s health, wellbeing, and role within your program (we truly love hearing how each horse is doing).

  • Complete Abijah’s Off-Track Thoroughbred Cultural Training.

Thoroughbreds for Personal Placement

Individual Placements

Individuals may be eligible to receive an off-track thoroughbred for personal (non-program) placement. Applicants must demonstrate appropriate horse experience, suitable facilities, financial ability to provide ongoing care, and a shared commitment to the horse’s wellbeing. Individual placements require approval, completion of Abijah’s Off-Track Thoroughbred Cultural Training, and ongoing communication with Abijah’s.

Invite the wisdom, heart, and resilience of an off-track thoroughbred into your life or program—creating experiences you and your participants will never forget.
